Creating recordings
Yes, you can start for free. The free plan includes 3 recordings per account, each up to 5 minutes, with transcripts, speaker labels, AI summaries and action items, plus Ask and summary templates on those recordings. No credit card needed. Premium removes these limits and adds Ask across all your recordings, summary templates on every recording, People catch-up briefs and sharing links. See pricing for plans and prices.
To create a recording, open Voicerec and press the large record button in the bottom center of the screen. This will automatically begin a voice memo recording.

You can pause the recording at any time by pressing the pause button at the bottom of the screen. Pressing play will also pause the recording and replay what has been recorded so far. When you have finished recording, press the stop button to complete the recording.
Free plan: 3 recordings per account (deleting a recording doesn't free up a slot). Premium: unlimited.
Free plan: each of your 3 free recordings can be up to 5 minutes. Premium: no 5-minute limit.
As soon as you stop recording, we process the audio file and push it to your phone within seconds. This process may take slightly longer for recordings over 30 minutes in length.
Managing recordings
Recordings can be accessed via the home screen of the Voicerec app. To access them, click on the notebook corresponding to the recording you wish to view or listen to. Your recordings are also stored on our secure servers and tied to your account for backup and disaster recovery purposes.
In order to change the name of a recording, you can long press on the corresponding notebook on Voicerec's home screen. Select the second option, labeled "Rename recording", enter the desired name for the recording and press "save".

Voicerec also offers the ability to group multiple recordings into a "Collection" and/or "Bookmark" individual recordings for easier access and management. You can access both of these features using the same long press action on an individual recording's notebook on Voicerec's home screen.
To transcribe a recording, open the Voicerec app and click on the recording that you wish to transcribe. You will then see a button in the center of the screen that says "Transcribe". Press this button to initiate the transcription process. If you haven't turned on AI features yet, Voicerec asks for your agreement first, and transcription starts once you agree. Transcriptions may take up to 30 minutes to complete depending on the length of the recording.
Yes. You can edit any transcription by long pressing on an individual word or line in the transcription, which will surface multiple action options. Press "Edit" to begin editing the transcript. You can also access this feature by clicking the three dots in the top right corner of the screen when viewing an individual transcript.
To use either of these features, open the Voicerec app and click on the recording that you wish to interact with. Once you have opened the recording, you will see two tabs labeled "Summary" and "Action Items" near the top of the screen. Clicking on either will surface the relevant content for that recording.
To delete a recording, long press on it on Voicerec's home screen and select "Delete recording". The recording is removed from your recordings list on all your devices.
Your recordings will remain attached to your account so long as you register with your email address. If you change devices, please re-download the Voicerec app and login to your account using the same email address and password combination. All previous recordings saved to your account will automatically be downloaded to your new device once you have successfully logged into your account.
Ask, summary templates and People
Ask answers questions about your recordings, like "What did we decide about the launch?". On iPhone, tap Ask at the top of the home screen, choose "Ask about…" when you search, or open the Ask tab on a recording. On Mac, open the Ask tab on a recording, or open the Ask Voicerec window from the toolbar (⌘⇧A) or the menu bar.

Voicerec finds the recordings most likely to contain the answer, reads the relevant parts of their transcripts and writes a short answer. The answer links to the moments it's based on, so you can jump there and listen. Answers are written by AI and can contain mistakes, so check the linked moments for anything important. Ask only uses recordings that have been transcribed.

On the free plan you can ask about your free recordings. With Premium you can ask across all your recordings, or about everything you've discussed with one person.
Ask works with recordings in any of the nearly 100 languages Voicerec transcribes. Ask in whichever language you like: Voicerec answers in the language of your question, even when the recording is in another one, and its links still point to the original moments. For a very short question, like a single name, the answer's language may follow your device's settings instead.

When you ask across your recordings, Voicerec looks for recordings that contain the words in your question, and falls back to your most recent recordings when few match. If your question and your recordings are in different languages, include names or terms as they were said in the recording, or ask from inside the recording itself. Speaker labels are available in about 60 languages; in the others, answers can't tell who said what.
Templates shape a recording's summary for the kind of conversation it was. Open a recording's Summary tab and pick one:
  • Meeting: topics discussed, decisions and open questions
  • One-on-one: updates and wins, challenges and blockers, feedback, and goals and growth
  • Stand-up: done, planned and blockers
  • Interview: background, key points, notable quotes and follow-up questions
  • Lecture: main topics, key concepts and definitions, examples, assignments and deadlines, and questions to review
  • Sales: client needs, objections and concerns, pricing and budget, and decision makers and timeline
  • Voice note: key points, ideas and reminders
General keeps the classic summary. Summaries are written in the language of the recording, and action items stay on their own tab. To use a template for new recordings, choose a default summary template in the app's settings. Very long recordings may get a general summary instead.

Templates work on your free recordings, and with Premium on every recording.
People is built from the speaker names in your transcripts. Once you name a speaker, the recording appears under that person. On iPhone, switch the home screen from Recordings to People; on Mac, switch the sidebar to People. Open a person to see the recordings you've made with them.

With Premium, choose "Catch me up" on a person's page for a short brief before you meet: what you last discussed, open commitments on either side and something worth following up. Points link to the moments they're based on. Briefs are based on your most recent recordings with that person and are written in the language of the latest one. You can also ask a question about everything you've discussed with that person.

People are matched by name, so give two different people who share a first name their full names. Generic labels like "Speaker 1", "Host" or "Interviewer" don't appear in People. Choose "This is me" on your own entry to keep yourself out of the list, or "Hide from People" to remove someone.
Open a recording that has a transcript and choose "Edit Speakers" from the recording's menu. Select a speaker and type their name. As you type, Voicerec suggests people you've already named, so the same person is spelled the same way every time. Save, and the recording appears under that person in People.

On iPhone, if someone says their name in a recording and you've turned on AI features, Voicerec may suggest it for that speaker. A suggestion is only used if you accept it.

Speaker labels are available in about 60 languages. You can name speakers on your free recordings, and with Premium on every recording.
Your recordings are stored on Google Cloud, encrypted in transit and at rest. They are transcribed by our speech-recognition provider, Deepgram. To create summaries and action items, your whole transcript, including speaker names, is processed by Google's AI, Vertex AI on Google Cloud. For Ask, catch-up briefs and speaker name suggestions, the relevant parts of your transcripts are processed the same way; for a question about one recording, that's usually its whole transcript. When you use Ask, your question and the earlier messages of the conversation are processed too.

Current versions of the app ask for your agreement first: transcription and AI features start only after you agree, and your recordings are backed up to your account right away either way. Once you've turned on AI features, recordings on the free plan are transcribed automatically. You can turn AI features off anytime in the app's Settings.
Sharing recordings
To share a recording, open the Voicerec app and click on the recording that you wish to share. You will then see a button on the bottom right of the screen that says "Share". Pressing this button will open up a sharing module with various options and settings for sharing your recording with others.
Yes. Anyone who has a shared link can open it, so only share it with people you trust. To stop a link from working, delete the recording in Voicerec, or email us at support@theappshop.io with the recording's name and we'll turn off its link for you. This works on any plan, including the free plan.
Creating sharing links is a Premium feature, but links you have already shared keep working after a subscription ends. A shared link stops working if its recording was deleted or its link was turned off. If a link still doesn't work, email us at support@theappshop.io.
Account troubleshooting
You can edit the email associated with your Voicerec account at any time by navigating to the "Settings" section of the app using the gear icon in the top right corner.
